Towns and Nations

Towny Overview

Towny is a plugin for a Bukkit modded Minecraft server. The plugin itself is a manager for a Resident-Town-Nation hierarchy, as well as a block permission manager for a grid-like protection system. Each town has a mayor, while a nation has a king. They both have their own assistants to help run their respective people. Players can also purchase land from the town, as well as an optional daily tax set by the mayor. The player can allow his friends from out of town to build on his land when even his very own town's people can't build if he so wishes.

The basis of protection follows under how the world is separated into chunks. For those unaware, minecraft servers are broken up into 16x16x384 sections of blocks. The 384 being the height from the bedrock floor to the clouds in the sky. The protection ignores the height and focuses on the x and z planes. The default size for grid squares is 16x16, similar to the chunk size (configurable when you start using towny). So claiming a townblock (a grid square) allows that section of land to follow your town's or the plot owner's permissions.

Each town can claim up to a certain amount of townblocks, a set ratio or amount configured in the setting that is relative to the amount of players taking residence in that town. Residents themselves have no limit on how many they claim, however the daily tax (when using alongside an economy plugin) will take a bite out of their resources. The money is tunnelled to the town's bank account that only the mayor can withdraw from, except if the town belongs to a nation. Any town belonging to a nation may be required to pay the nation a daily upkeep as well.

On Emerald, the economy uses a digital currency that does not have a physical form. Money can be obtained via the Shop (/shop), Jobs (/jobs browse), Events (See Misc.), or someone paying you with /pay. Money can be used to buy ranks (/ranks), create towns and nations (see Towns and Nations), items from the Shop (/shop), the Auction House (/ah), and fight wars (see Wars).

There is also a secondary currency called Tokens. Tokens are primarily used for tags (/tags), which are cosmetic and apply a title at the end of your name, or they can be used for the Token Shop (/ts), which contains some items not found in /shop.

Pre-War

As a King of a nation or as Mayor of a town, you can bestow military ranks to players in your nation or town.

Nation Military Ranks:

  • Private, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Colonel - Can gain Battle Points.

  • General - Can do everything the above ranks can, plus can assign nation military ranks, start/abandon/surrender sieges, and plunder/invade after victory.

Town Military Ranks:

  • Guard - Can gain battle points.

  • Sheriff - As above, plus can assign town military ranks.

Starting a Siege

As a nation king or general, place a non-white banner in the wilderness close to a town:

  • This is the Siege Banner.

  • This action will start a new siege at the town after a Siege Assembly is won.

  • The Siege Type will be 'CONQUEST'.

  • Any player may only fight 3 Sieges per week, and each nation may only have 3 active sieges at a time.

The nation deposits $1,500/plot into a War Chest:

  • This money will be automatically recovered later, by the eventual winner of the siege.

PVP is force-enabled in a 300 block radius around the Siege Banner (the Siege Zone).

Before a Siege begins, and after a Siege Banner is placed, a Siege Assembly begins. This is a 'King of the Hill' stage where you need to amass 50 points within 10 minutes by standing in the radius to start a Siege.

Fighting in a Siege

Wait for a Battle Session to begin:

  • A Battle Session must be active for players to gain Battle Points.

  • Battle Sessions start every hour, at 10 past the hour, and each one lasts 50 minutes.

Capture Banner:

  • As an Official Siege Participant (a military-ranked member of one of the teams), walk into the Banner Capture Zone (a 16 block radius around the Siege-Banner). A Banner Capture Session will start.

  • Remain alive for 7 minutes, then you will Capture the Banner for your team, and will be added to the Banner Control List.

  • Your team will automatically get 30 Battle Points each minute for each player on the Banner Control List.

  • If a team steals battle control from the enemy team, this is called a Banner Control Reversal, and the reversing team has their base timed-point-generation rate multiplied 3.

Kill Enemy Players:

  • As a soldier in the Siege-Zone, kill an enemy Official Siege Participant of military rank, for a reward of 150 Battle Points.

Win Battle:

  • When the Battle Session ends, the team with the best Battle Points score is declared the battle-winner. Both teams get their battle points applied to the Siege Balance.

  • The Siege Balance is capped on either end, at -20,000 and +20,000.

Win Siege:

  • When the siege ends:

    • If the Siege Balance is greater than zero, the attacker is declared the siege-winner, otherwise the defender is declared the siege-winner.

    • The besieged town receives Siege Immunity, for x3 times the duration of the siege. Siege Immunity protects the town from further attacks.

    • The besieged town also receives Revolt Immunity for 75% the duration of the Siege Immunity. Revolt Immunity stops the town from revolting.

Abandoning an Attack:

  • As a siege attacker, you can place an all-white banner in the wilderness close to the town to abandon the attack.

Surrendering as a Defender:

  • As a siege defender, you can place an all-white banner in the wilderness close the the town to surrender the defense.

Plundering and Occupation

Plundering a Town:

  • As king or general whose nation has won a siege, place a chest in the wilderness close to the town.

  • This action will rob the town of $1,550/plot, and deposit it in the nation bank.

  • A plundered town cannot fall due to the money loss (it can only go 'bankrupt', preserving the town completely but blocking building/claiming/recruitment).

Invading a Town:

  • As king or general whose nation has won a siege, place a non-white banner in the wilderness near the town. This action will invade the town, setting the victorious nation to be its occupier.

  • The occupied town remains a full part of the home nation, except for the following areas, where it is considered a part of the occupying nation:

    • Dynmap color.

    • Nation rankings (/n list).

    • Nation bonus plot generation.

Escaping Occupation

As the mayor of a town which has been defeated in a siege and invaded, you have a few options.

Free yourself via a Revolt Siege:

  • Place a non-white banner outside the town.

  • If the town wins, the occupation will be removed.

  • If the town loses, the occupier can plunder.

Get a friendly nation to free the town using a Liberation Siege:

  • The king/general from the friendly nation starts this siege by placing a non-white banner outside the town.

  • If the Liberator wins, the occupation will be removed.

  • The Liberator can (optionally) plunder and/or invade.

  • If the Liberator loses, the occupier can plunder and/or invade.

Fight off a Suppression siege by the occupier:

  • The king/general from the occupying nation starts this siege by placing a non-white banner outside the town.

  • If the occupier wins, they can plunder and/or invade, and the revolt timer is reset.

  • If the occupier loses, the occupation is removed.

On Emerald, it is a tradition that there are custom items that can be created or obtained. Do /crafts to view a custom item set and its item's recipes.

Ruby Set

To get started with the Ruby Set, craft an Unpurified Ruby Pickaxe with 64 redstone blocks, 2 netherite ingots, deepslate and a netherite pickaxe. The Unpurified Ruby Pickaxe has a small chance of dropping Ruby Powder, which can be used to craft Rubies.

To craft other items in the set, surround a netherite item with rubies to create a Ruby item. You can do this with a brand new Unpurified Ruby Pickaxe to create a Purified Ruby Pickaxe, an upgraded version with a much higher chance of dropping Ruby Powder.

Religion

Religion Overview

On Emerald, you can create religions that give perks to those who join that specific religion. Religions can be upgraded with more Ancient Texts to give more perks.

Upon creation, a Religion will only have a founder perk, or a perk only for the founder. To give a perk for followers of a religion, you must enhance the religion with another Ancient Text. The perks grow stronger with each new follower.

Ancient Texts

To get an Ancient Text which is required for creating a religion, first create a Relic. The recipe for the Relic can be seen in /crafts and clicking Religion Items.

Ancient Texts are consumed upon creating a religion and are also consumed when upgrading a religion.

Perks

Perks are applied to the Founder of a religion as well as its followers. The more followers there are, the better the follower perks are.

Brewery

On Emerald Earth, there is a plugin called Brewery which allows you to create custom drinks with drunkenness and other effects.

To create drinks, follow these steps as a guide.

  1. Fermenting: Place Cauldron over a Fire or other heat source. Fill it with water. Add Ingredients with a rightclick. Wait a few minutes while they ferment. Fill in glass bottles.

  2. Distilling: Some Recipes don't need distilling. Put the bottle with ferment into the brewing stand. Put glowstone dust as filter on top into the brewing stand (The filter will not be consumed)

  3. Aging: A barrel is needed for aging of certain drinks. Starting in 1.14 the Minecraft-Barrel can be used for aging of a few brews. Simply craft and place the barrel and put the brews inside. You can also build bigger barrels. They can be built in two ways:

      1. Small barrel | 9 Slots: Use 8 wooden stairs to build a barrel shape. Place a Sign on the lower right side and write "Barrel" in the upper Line. Image here.

      2. Big barrel | 27 Slots: Use 5 Fences, 16 Wooden stairs, and 18 wood planks to build a barrel shape. Attach a Spigot (Fence) and a Sign that has "Barrel" written on it. Image here.

      3. Each barrel can be opened by right clicking.

  4. Drinking: The Amount of Alcohol inside the Brew will be applied to the player when drinking. Depending on the quality of it, that may have different effects.

      1. The Player may not be able to walk normally anymore, he will weave, making it almost impossible to walk straight

      2. Effects like Blindness, Confusion, Poison etc. occur

      3. The Chat will be altered depending on drunkeness, many things players write may be incomprehensible, sometimes it seems senseless

      4. If the Alcohol particularly strong, it may have poisonous effects

      5. After drinking a lot, there is a chance of vomiting

      6. When logging off, the player may have difficulties reaching his character, thus some logins shortly after may be denied

      7. After Overdrinking the player may faint (Disconnecting)

  5. After drinking it takes a while until the alcohol is completely gone. During that time the alcohol level is steadily decreasing. When logging off extremely drunk, it may happen that, if the player logs back in after a while, he may find himself at an completely unknown place in the middle of nowhere having no idea how he got there. Also if the Alcohol was not of best quality, the player may face some bad type of hangover (slowness and hunger).

Events

  • How to Attend an Event

    • Attending events are one of the most enjoyable aspects of the server, and you can win lots of prizes.

    • Wait for an event to be announced via the server Discord, and be sure to stay up to date.

    • Depending on the location, do an assortment of commands.

    • For Drop Parties, go to /warp events

    • For ChestQuest, go to /warp chestquest

    • For Spleef, go to /warp spleef

    • For Survival Games, go to /warp sg

    • For Trivia, go to /warp events

    • For KoTH, go to /warp koth

  • How to Win Events

    • For events like Survival Games and Spleef, here are ways to win.

    • For Spleef, simply break the block underneath an opponent or knock them into the space below. You must be the last person alive to win, unless circumstances are different. Note that you cannot camp on the edges.

    • For Survival Games, you must kill everyone and be the last person alive. Rush to the center of the map to get loot quickly before the pvp immunity wears off, or run into the distance and search for chests.

    • For ChestQuest, most of the time it's quite simple. Just answer the quest the fastest, and you get to pick a reward chest. Usually the maximum amount of correct answers a participant can make is 2, but that sometimes changes depending on attendance. You cannot use Google or cheat.

    • For King of the Hill, simply stand on the area that is selected and the last person on it after 15 minutes wins.

    • For Trivia, simply answer the question the fastest and you get the specified reward. You cannot use google or cheat. Usually the maximum amount you can correctly answer is three times.

How to become staff

    • Becoming a Emerald Earth staff member is one of the best things you can do to increase your respect from the owners and the players, as well as the server.

    • Firstly, be mature, don't start arguments and be active among the community. Breaking rules will most likely result in you not becoming staff, and if you already are, you could be demoted.

    • After around two to three weeks after your first join date and a few days of playtime, apply using this link. Answer the questions respectfully and the fullest you can, with length.

    • Do NOT ask about your application, as the Owner will review them in time. Arguing over a denial of your application will most likely mean that you will never become staff. Keep in mind, a denial doesn't mean that the Owner or staff team does not like you, it's that they do not see you fit at that time, or there are too many.
